AWARD AMOUNT: $500,000*
PURPOSE: The Clay County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will use grant funds to implement
an adult drug court, which targets nonviolent, substance-abusing adult offenders. The primary
goals of the program are to enhance public safety and break the cycle of criminal activity and
chemical dependency confronted by substance abusers. The program will serve 250 clients over
a 3-year period. Clients will be expected to participate in the program for a minimum of 12 to
24 months. The drug court will provide intensive judicial supervision, treatment, mandatory
drug testing, graduated sanctions, aftercare, and other rehabilitative services. Additionally, a
management information system will be utilized to monitor client progress and to conduct
process and outcome evaluations. The program will provide collateral services such as
mentoring, parenting, mental and primary health care, employment, transportation, childcare,
nutritional, and educational services. The Clay County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will
coordinate its efforts with the following agencies: the YMCA, Heart of America Family
Services, North Kansas City School District, Clay County Division of Family Services, Missouri
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Full Employment Council, Maple Woods Community
College, and Synergy Services.
