AWARD AMOUNT:

$281,853*

PURPOSE: The City of Poughkeepsie Drug Court will use grant funds to implement an adult drug court in an urban jurisdiction. The court will serve 120 misdemeanor nonviolent, substance-abusing adult offenders annually. The program will last approximately 12 to 18 months, and it will operate based on a post-adjudication model. The program will provide intensive judicial supervision, sanctions and incentives, mandatory drug testing, and aftercare services through the use of a 3-phase structure. The court has established relationships with the NYS Unified Court System, the City of Poughkeepsie Police, Dutchess County Office of Probation and Community Corrections, District Attorney's Office, Public Defender's Office, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Hygiene, Mental Health Association, Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce, Department of Health, Sheriff's Department, Gateway's Community Industries, Riverside Healthcare, Vassar Bothers Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Astor Clinic, Dutchess Community College, Youth Bureau, Marist College, Council on Chemical Dependency, Department of Planning, Mid-Hudson Library System, and various community education programs. The court will conduct process and outcome evaluations, which will evaluate the court's operations and impact on the surrounding community. The court will utilize the NYS Universal Treatment Application, which allows the court to maintain a uniform database throughout the state, while allowing flexibility to suit the needs of the local court.
