FY 2002 DRUG COURT GRANT PROGRAM

Adult Enhancement Grant Award

New York

AWARD RECIPIENT:

New York State Unified Court System - Queens County
New York, NY

AWARD AMOUNT:

$267,552*

PURPOSE: The Queens County Treatment Court will use grant funds to enhance an adult drug court in an urban jurisdiction. The court will serve first-time felony nonviolent, substance- abusing offenders. The program will last approximately 12 to 18 months, and it will operate based on a post-adjudication model. The enhancement will provide funding for a mental health case manager, a career/literacy counselor, an assistant case manager, to conduct an outcome evaluation, and to attend various training programs. The goals of the program are to reduce substance abuse and criminal activity among first-time felony offenders. The court has established relationships with various local substance abuse treatment providers, local law enforcement, and the criminal justice community. The court will utilize the NYS Universal Treatment Application, which allows the court to maintain a uniform database throughout the state, while allowing flexibility to suit the needs of the local court.
