PURPOSE: The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC) will use grant
funds to implement a statewide juvenile and family enhancement initiative. There are currently
2 operational youth treatment courts, 1 operational family treatment court, and 3 planning youth
treatment courts. The juvenile and family enhancement initiative consists of a 3-pronged
approach of technical assistance, a management information system, and evaluation. The
NCAOC will use grant funds for a juvenile and family drug court specialist to provide technical
assistance to operational drug courts and ensure that planning programs are developed in
compliance with the Key Components and NC Core Elements of drug court programs. Funds
will be used to create a juvenile management information system and conduct a statewide
process and outcome evaluation of the juvenile and family drug treatment courts. The grant
recipient will coordinate the drug court effort with the following agencies or offices: Forsyth
Youth Treatment Court, Durham Youth Treatment Court, Wake County Youth Treatment Court,
North Carolina Public Defender System, North Carolina District Attorney's Association, North
Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Department of Health and Human Services, and Drug
Treatment Court Management Committee.
