OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS

FY 2002 DRUG COURT GRANT PROGRAM

Enhancement Grant Award

California

AWARD RECIPIENT:

Judicial Council of California, Administrative Office of the Courts
San Francisco, CA

AWARD AMOUNT:

$297,625*

PURPOSE: The Judicial Council of California, Administrative Office of the Courts, will use grant funds to conduct the second phase of a statewide cost-benefit drug court study. The first phase consisted of examining 3 diverse California adult drug courts to develop a preliminary model for a broader statewide cost-benefit study. The Council utilized an external research advisory group to analyze a variety of data sources. The second phase will test and refine the existing methodology in 6 additional drug courts. As a result of the study, 91 California adult drug courts will be able to use the developed self-evaluation tool. The future implication of this enhancement grant is to establish a model for all drug courts. The Council will collaborate with the State of California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, Northwest Professional Consortium, California Department of Justice, and social service agencies.
