For homicides of white children, the number began at 300 in 1976 and fell, reaching 286 in 1977. After 1977, the number rose to a high of 424 in 1996, before dropping to 325 in 2002. Then it increased to 349 in 2003, before decreasing to 328 in 2005.
For homicides of black children, the number began at 239 in 1976 and increased to 250 in 1978. Then the number fell to 208 in 1979, before increasing, reaching 362 in 1993. After 1993, it decreased to 209 in 2004, before increasing to 218 in 2005.
For homicides of children of other races, the number began at 6 in 1976 and decreased to 3 in 1977. After 1977, the number increased to 28 in 1993, before decreasing, reaching 10 in 2005.
