Voice Stress Analysis: Only 15 Percent of Lies About Drug Use Detected in Field Test

Law enforcement agencies across the country have invested heavily in voice stress analysis (VSA) software programs. This article looks at an NIJ-funded field test that examined the effectiveness of two of the most popular VSA programs in use by police departments. Researchers found that the VSA programs detected only about 15 percent of deceptive responses regarding recent drug use.
