New Standard Reference Material improves assessment of the amount of human DNA in biological samples

Modern technology allows forensic scientists to analyze tiny bits of biological evidence that can identify a suspect or victim.

However, these techniques work best if DNA fed into the system is within a very narrow range—too much or too little yields poor or no results.  That is where a new Standard Reference Material (SRM) can help.

DNA Quantitation Standard (SRM 2372) can be used to calibrate systems so that measurements made with the kits in forensic laboratories are consistently accurate. The National Institute of Standards and Technology developed the SRM with funding from NIJ.
