The mission of the AMBER Alert in Indian Country Initiative is to assist Tribal communities in developing programs to safely recover endangered missing or abducted children through the coordinated efforts of the tribes and their local, state and federal partners by using training and technology to enhance response capacities, capabilities and increase public participation in protecting children.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP): Model Programs Guide (MPG)
OJJDP’s MPG contains information about evidence-based juvenile justice and youth prevention, intervention, and reentry programs, including programs that focus on tribal youth.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP): Statistical Briefing Book (SBB)
OJJDP’s SBB enables users to access online information to learn more about juvenile crime and victimization and about youth involved in the juvenile justice system.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP): Tribal Youth Programs and Services
OJJDP supports states, local communities, and tribal jurisdictions in their efforts to develop and implement effective programs for youth.

Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART)
The responsibilities of the SMART Office include providing jurisdictions with guidance regarding the implementation of the Adam Walsh Act and providing technical assistance to the states, territories, tribes, local governments, and to public and private organizations. The SMART Office also tracks important legislative and legal developments related to sex offenders and administers grant programs related to the registration, notification, and management of sex offenders.

Tribal Access to Justice Innovation
Funded through a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Tribal Access to Justice Innovation site is designed to help tribal justice practitioners learn about emerging and promising justice-related programs in Indian Country, including those that focus on child welfare and crimes against children and juvenile justice.

Grant Programs

Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS)
Administered by the Office of Justice Programs, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services and the Office on Violence Against Women, CTAS funds enhance law enforcement practices and sustain crime prevention and intervention efforts in nine purpose areas including public safety and community policing; justice systems planning; alcohol and substance abuse; corrections and correctional alternatives; violence against women; juvenile justice; and tribal youth programs.

Office of Justice Programs (OJP)
OJP provides innovative leadership to federal, state, local, and tribal justice systems by disseminating state-of-the art knowledge and practices across America, and providing grants for the implementation of crime fighting strategies. Contained on the OJP Funding Resource Center site is information about open solicitations, resources for applicants and grantees, grant procedures and requirements, links to State Administering Agencies, and additional grant-related resources.

Training & Technical Assistance

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Tribal Youth Training and Technical Assistance Center
The OJJDP Tribal Youth Training and Technical Assistance Center provides culturally appropriate, trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate training, resources, information and other related technical assistance to all OJJDP Tribal Programs grantees and federally recognized tribes across the nation.

Tribal Justice and Safety: Training and Technical Assistance
The Department of Justice provides training and technical assistance to further practical and specialized knowledge to implement and enhance justice system efforts in tribal and other areas.
