Abstract
Data cover reported crime index offenses statewide and by county, crime rates by county, and crime index offenses reported by month for the State. Data also address the value of property stolen, arrest distribution by race and age, drug arrests by age and race, and sex of adults arrested by month for Part I and Part II offenses statewide. The age and sex of adults and juveniles arrested for various offense categories are presented statewide and by county. The data show that the number of reported crime index offenses has increased in 1988 over 1987, the third consecutive annual increase. Larceny-theft accounted for 69 percent of the crime index offenses. The number of murders, rapes, and robberies decreased by 12 percent, 10 percent, and 13 percent, respectively; the number of aggravated assaults rose by 11 percent. There were 59,653 total arrests for nontraffic offenses; 27 percent of the arrestees were juveniles, compared to 29 percent in 1987; and there was a 4-percent decrease in drug arrests. 29 tables.
