This “Fact Sheet” developed by the U.S. Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) summarizes each BJA program deemed by BJA to benefit jails.

Abstract

BJA’s mission is to help America’s state, local, and tribal jurisdictions reduce and prevent crime and promote a fair and safe criminal justice system. BJA’s range of resources includes grants and funding, as well as training and technical assistance. The BJA programs summarized in this Fact Sheet are considered by BJA to be especially relevant to the management and performance of Jails. They are entitled as follows: 1) Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program to Support Law Enforcement Agencies; 2) Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program; 3) Collaborative Crisis Response and Intervention Training Program; 4) Connect and Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program; 5) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program; 6) Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation, Purpose Area 3: Tribal Justice Systems Program; 7) Implementing the PREA Standards, Protecting People Who Are Incarcerated, and Safeguarding Communities; 8) Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation, Purpose Area 4: Tribal Justice System Infrastructure Program; 9) Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program; 10) Improving Reentry Education and Employment Outcomes; 11) Improving Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Outcomes for Adults in Reentry; 12) Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery; 13) Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program; 14) Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor; 15) Pay for Success Initiative; 16) Residential Substance Abuse Treatment for State Prisoners Program; 17) Preventing Violence Against Law Enforcement Officers and Ensuring Officer Resilience and Survivability (VALOR) Initiative; 18) Smart Reentry and Supervision: Grants, Tools, and Technical Assistance to Facilitate Change; 19) Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Program; and 20) Tribal Corrections Capacity Building Training and Technical Assistance Program.
