Included in the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and Research and Documentation Centre (RDC) victim survey covering 1982 were various questions on witnessing crime.
Abstract
One out of every three Dutch citizens had been witness to one or more crimes during this twelve month period. A 'going out' lifestyle and an earlier experience as a victim with crime in the same period were major explanations for this. The risk in becoming a witness is distributed in a similar way to that of victimization. Intervention depended on both crime-specific and situational factors. Interventions occurred in 27 percent of all bystander experiences. (Author abstract)
