This article describes the client management classification (CMC) system used in probation, parole, and prison settings.
Abstract
CMC is a comprehensive classification approach consisting of three major components: an objectively scored structured interview, strategies for supervising different types of clients, and a case planning process that emphasizes practical behavioral objectives. The classification group and supervision strategies are described, emphasizing implications for both correctional institutions and the correctional field. Three research evaluations of CMC are presented. One survey reflects benefits to line staff, while two outcome studies demonstrate improvements in recidivism and employment. (Author abstract modified)
