Length
112 pages
Annotation
These standards, put forth by the American Correctional Association, are designed to serve as a benchmark for measuring the quality of adult and juvenile correctional programs and services.
Abstract
They provide a quality control mechanism that considers the constitutional rights of offenders, the managerial responsibilities of administrators and staff, and the obligations and responsibilities of society as a whole. The standards promote correctional programs and facilities that are managed efficiently, safely, and with humane concern for crime victims, correctional personnel, and accused and adjudicated offenders. This third standards supplement contains all the additions, revisions, deletions, and interpretations of previous standards and supplements published since 1979, as well as changes approved in 1985. Standards cover adult parole authorities, community residential services, probation and parole field services, correctional institutions, and local detention facilities. The section on juvenile corrections addresses community residential facilities, probation and aftercare services, detention facilities, and training schools. Appendixes provide additional information on fire and general safety. Glossary and forms for proposed revisions of standards.
