This document presents the results and policy implications of a United Nations survey on the employment of women in various criminal justice systems in the world between 1970 and 1982, the nature and incidence of female crime, and sex discrimination in criminal justice processing.
Abstract
The survey received responses from 53 of the 100 countries contacted. Results revealed that female criminality is increasing in many countries, that females do not receive the same treatment as males in the criminal justice system, and that female professionals have experienced difficulty in achieving equal employment opportunity in the criminal justice system in most countries. Developed countries are more likely to provide women with improved employment opportunities within their criminal justice system than are developing countries.
