Four articles examine types of cults that recruit members on college campuses, recruitment techniques used, college students' vulnerability to cult recruitment, and anticult tactics recommended for campus police.
Abstract
One article examines dangers posed by cult recruitment and retention practices and advises university administrators and campus police to be informed about cults and disseminate appropriate information to students. Another describes one family's experience of a daughter's recruitment to a cult on her college campus, an experience which has isolated her from her family and apparently turned her into an automaton. The same article describes the Cult Awareness Network, which the parents have joined in their resolve to inform young people about the nature and consequences of cult practices. The remaining two articles provide more detailed information on cult types (religious, therapeutic, political, and economic) and recruitment techniques (deception and manipulation).
