This report describes and illustrates design solutions to automobile theft that can be produced at little additional cost, using available components and technology.
          Abstract
A number of design features can be used to decrease vehicle vulnerability to opportunist thefts. These include locking steering columns, more discs and hardened steel within the keyhold plate in tumbler locks, locks mounted flush with the body, shields over door latches, laminated glass, and high-security rear-load locks. Among electrical and electronic design modifications to increase security are electrical locking systems, alarm systems, electronic engine immobilization, electronic personal entry and key codes, and automatic locking systems or audible warning signals if the car is left unlocked.
