This booklet is designed to help police officers or volunteers plan and prepare for the presentation of the 'Hug-a-Tree and Survive' program.
Abstract
This lost-child prevention program for preschool through eighth grade children and their parents provides information on how to avoid getting lost in remote areas and what the child can and should do if he becomes lost. It consists of a slide presentation, handouts, and a brochure for parents. In addition, children are introduced to a search dog and permitted access to a helicopter. The booklet discusses preplanning and orientation activities, scheduling, working with search and rescue volunteers, and the presentation. Appendixes include additional information about the program; a listing of presentations in Sonoma County, Calif.; memos; news stories; case incident reports; syllabus; and other materials.
