This 1992 London conference looked at the judiciary in terms of judicial appointments, pay, pensions, training and education, and tenure.
Abstract
The first speaker reported that judicial administration issues have been neglected by lawyers and politicians and that procedures for appointing, training, disciplining, and removing judges are central to the legal system. The second speaker covered the appointment of judges in the context of England's Race Relations Act and Sex Discrimination Act, while the third speaker discussed the role of England's Equal Opportunities Commission in judicial appointments. The last two speakers presented their views on the independence of the judiciary, judicial review, the representation of ethnic minorities and women in the judicial system, judicial pressures and accountability, and the judicial appointment process.
