This document presents mandated minimum standards for the topics, learning objectives, and hours of instruction for an entrance-level police training program.
Abstract
For "administration" there are 19 learning objectives to be presented in a minimum of 32 hours; and for "arrest, search, and seizure," there are 22 learning objectives to be achieved with a minimum of 73 hours of instruction. "Patrol" has 193 learning objectives to be achieved through a minimum of 145 hours of instruction, and instruction on "traffic" lists 62 learning objectives to be achieved in a minimum of 74 hours of instruction. Instruction in "criminal investigation" has 40 learning objectives and a minimum of 36 hours of instruction. There must be 71 hours of instruction in advanced first aid. Trainees must meet the qualification standards for certification in either the Advanced First-Aid Program of the American Red Cross, the Crash Injury Management for Law Enforcement Officers, or a program declared by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to be equivalent to either of these programs. There are no specific number of hours required for instruction related to each performance objective.
