This treatment manual provides materials and worksheets for six group therapy sessions designed to prevent relapse among sexual offenders.
Abstract
Each of the six therapy sessions is organized around five structural dimensions: motivation, assessment, coping skills, social interactions, and daily lifestyle. Session outlines, opening and closing procedures, a session overview and summary, and homework assignments are provided for each of the 2 hour and 15 minute sessions. Minilectures, discussions, exercises (imaginal practice, roleplay, and skill rehearsal), and reviews are used to present didactic materials and skill acquisition procedures. Overall, sessions aim at encouraging participants to change and take responsibility for change, identify high-risk situations and skill deficits, and develop effective coping skills, other goals are to enhance self-esteem and perceptions of control, increase social supports, and develop habits that will reduce stress and lead to more acceptable patterns of indulgence and gratification. Outlines also are provided for the 52 weekly, individual followup sessions. Also included are a relapse prevention goal attainment scale and relapse prevention therapy integrity ratings.
