The police have cooperated with the schools in Kent County, England for many years to educate students about crime prevention, road and traffic safety, and other matters and have recently expanded their efforts in the schools.
Abstract
A 1984 committee recommended expanded efforts to educate students about the role of the police, inform them about the law and their rights and duties as citizens, make them aware of risks, encourage their help in crime prevention, and assist in sports and outdoor activities. These recommendations led to the development of a new program which began in 1989. This program focuses on young children, based on the view that children's beliefs and value systems are largely formed by age 7. Other programs focus on older elementary students and secondary students. Additional programs focus on prevention of drug abuse and on personal security for women.
