This guide assists the instructor in the development of an appropriate lesson plan that will achieve the performance objectives for the basic police course in stress, career influences, and victimology.
Abstract
This unit is part of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Course Guidelines system developed by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training with the assistance of the law enforcement training community. The learning goals, performance objectives, a list of materials and equipment, and instructional outlines are provided for each unit. The learning goal of the unit on career influences is for the student to have an understanding and working knowledge of the influences of a law enforcement career on an officer's personal life. The learning goal of the unit on stress factors is to give students an understanding of psychological stress, and the learning goal of the unit on victimology is to provide students with an understanding and working knowledge of crime victimology. The learning goal of the unit on hate crimes is to provide students an understanding of hate crimes motivated by racial, ethnic, religious, or sexual orientation.
