The study objectives are to present a technique for the production of postmortem computed tomography (CT) scans which allows precise comparison to preexisting antemortem scans as well as to introduce and apply to a case a standardized scoring system for the analysis of frontal sinus configurations.
Abstract
The use of a qualified scoring system minimizes problems introduced by alterations of the film appearance because of the loss of soft tissue and objectifies simple visual comparison. The technique described is in the early stages of development yet appears to work well. Due to the enormous number of combinations possible by arranging the class number of each classification item, the likelihood of two persons with identical code numbers is extremely remote. This means that the chance of a false positive identification is improbable. 8 figures, 9 tables, and 32 references (Author abstract modified)
