A 1985 survey of victim services, victim compensation, restitution, and other forms of information received responses from 70 countries.
Abstract
The questionnaire sought information about existing practices as well as proposals for reform. the responding countries were from all geographical regions. The results revealed variations in scope, orientation, and level of development of current systems and specific mechanisms of victim assistance. However, the consensus was that much remained to be done in this area, especially with respect to new and special forms of victimization, such as those arising from unconventional crimes and abuses of public and economic power. The participants also viewed training and information sharing as crucial. They also recommended more research, increased advocacy for victims, and cooperative efforts among countries.
