WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Justice Department has launched a new website that provides critical information to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks and their families, Attorney General John Ashcroft announced today.? The Victims and Family Assistance website -- www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/terrorismvictimassistance -- offers information about emergency assistance, legal rights and services available to victims of federal crimes and provides updates on the progress of the criminal justice response to the attacks.? It also includes information on coping with the emotional impact of the tragedy.

?This website is a part of the Justice Department?s commitment to helping the terrorism victims and their families for both the short and the long term,? said Attorney General Ashcroft.? ?I hope that this website will help give some small measure of relief by delivering crucial and timely information to those who need it most.?

The Victims and Family Assistance website was developed by the Justice Department?s Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) and includes:

?                      Answers to frequently asked questions about available victim assistance and services;

?                      Justice Department news releases regarding the investigation;

?                      OVC publications on terrorism, crisis response and other related topics;

?                      Contact information and Internet links for victim benefits, compensation and other forms of assistance -- including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, state crime victim compensation boards, and the National Organization for Victim Assistance.

The website will be updated regularly as the needs change and as the investigation progresses.

The Victims and Family Assistance website can be found at www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/terrorismvictimassistance or through the Justice Department Website at www.usdoj.gov.? Information is also available for victims of the terrorist attacks and their families through the OVC's Family Assistance Call Center at 1-800/331‑0075.?
