CRIMINAL JUSTICE RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Criminal and juvenile
justice researchers, practitioners and policymakers will convene here on
Sunday, July 21 through Wednesday, July 24
to discuss the latest research and program evaluations related to crime,
drug control, and violence.? This annual
conference is? sponsored by the
Department of Justice?s National Institute of Justice and other agencies and
bureaus of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP).? The conference provides a national forum for the discussion of
cutting edge research and promising programs that are making a difference in
shaping criminal justice policy and practice.
Assistant Attorney General for the Office of
Justice Programs, Deborah J. Daniels, will deliver the keynote address on
Monday, July 22.?? Daniels will discuss
the importance of research and evaluation in guiding the policies and practices
of the criminal justice system.
This year?s conference will also include
plenary sessions on a number of issues including terrorism, racial profiling
and school shootings.? In addition,
panels will be featured on topics
?including the role of
communications interoperability in responding to terrorist acts; offender
reentry initiatives; racial profiling; transnational organized crime and
international terrorism; domestic violence; the use of biometrics for
corrections; drug policy and youth violence.
