DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AWARDS GRANT TO THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS TO REVIEW COURT SAFETY AND SECURITY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Department of Justice today announced that it will award a $100,000 grant to the National Center for State Courts to review court safety and security.

"Yesterday, in speaking to the Judicial Conference of the United States, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales announced a Department-led review of judicial security measures," said Tracy Henke, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs. "Today, I am pleased to announce that the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs will be providing a $100,000 grant to the National Center for State Courts to work with its partners to review judicial security in state and local courts. We believe that the work of the NCSC and its partners is the type of review that the Department of Justice will find useful and informative in undertaking its own review."

The Office of Justice Programs provides federal leadership in developing the nation's capacity to prevent and control crime, administer justice, and assist victims. OJP is headed by an Assistant Attorney General and comprises five component bureaus and two offices: the Bureau of Justice Assistance; the Bureau of Justice Statistics; the National Institute of Justice; the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; and Office for Victims of Crime, as well as the Office of the Police Corps and Law Enforcement Education and the Community Capacity Development Office, which incorporates the Weed and Seed program and OJP's American Indian and Alaska Native Affairs Desk.
