INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM VICTIM EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) today will begin accepting applications for the International Terrorism Victim Expense Reimbursement Program (ITVERP). The ITVERP was created under the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act and is administered by OJP's Office for Victims of Crime. The ITVERP provides reimbursement to qualifying victims who are killed or suffer direct physical or emotional injury as a result of international terrorism occurring outside the United States on or after December 21, 1988. Eligible victims primarily include individuals who are U.S. citizens, or officers or employees, including contractors, of the U.S. Government on the date of the act of international terrorism. Categories of expenses for which victims may seek reimbursement are medical, mental health counseling, property loss, funeral and burial and miscellaneous.
