NEW EMERGENCY RESPONDER TECHNOLOGIES SHOWCASED AT CRITICAL INCIDENT CONFERENCE

      WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP), in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DoD), is holding its 9th Annual Technologies for Critical Incident Preparedness Conference and Exposition Nov. 6 – 8, 2007 in San Francisco.

      The three-day conference is expected to draw 1,500 attendees and 150 exhibits, and bring together key leaders and decision makers--offering responders, business and industry, academia, and federal, state, tribal and local stakeholders a unique forum to network, exchange ideas, and collaboratively address critical incident technology and preparedness needs and solutions.       "In the post-9/11 environment, police, fire and emergency services managers realize that an understanding of current and upcoming first responder technologies is increasingly important," said Cybele Daley, Acting Assistant Attorney General for OJP. "This event provides us and our Federal partners the opportunity to reach the emergency responder community and bring to light the technology and training tools vital to their mission, which are being developed for them by the federal government."

      The conference will include general sessions on the National Bombing Prevention Program, preparedness, response to natural disasters and transportation security. It will feature breakout-sessions on technologies such as personal protection equipment, school safety and security, and cyber forensics. Technology demonstrations will be available to conference attendees, as well as hands-on training on "Incident Commander" and "Advanced Use of Force" training systems.

      The Office of Justice Programs provides federal leadership in developing the nation’s capacity to prevent and control crime, administer justice, and assist victims. OJP has five component bureaus: the Bureau of Justice Assistance; the Bureau of Justice Statistics; the National Institute of Justice; the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; and the Office for Victims of Crime.
