Kansas Highway Patrol Graduation Highlights Impact of Recovery Act?In remarks today in Topeka, Kan., Mary Lou Leary, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, noted that some of the $4.7 million the Kansas Highway Patrol received through the Recovery Act was being used to hire 20 new recruits. In addition, Kansas is one of seven states participating in the Rural Law Enforcement Meth Initiative, also funded by the Recovery Act. The Initiative uses Domestic Highway Enforcement Teams to combat drug trafficking. A blog about a successful team effort is on the Department of Justice?s Web site.

Blogs Discuss DOJ?s efforts on Underage Drinking and Drug Endangered Children?Two recent blogs on the Department of Justice?s Web site outline DOJ?s grants to address Underage Drinking and a new Task Force on Drug Endangered Children. The Department also announced more than $20 million in grants to enforce state and local underage drinking laws nationwide.
