Laurie O. Robinson Announces Youth Mentoring Grants?In her remarks at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year Award Congressional Breakfast on Wednesday, September 15, Laurie O. Robinson, OJP?s Assistant Attorney General, announced that the Boys and Girls Clubs of America was one of four grantees to receive funding in OJP?s $60 million effort to support national mentoring initiatives across the country. Associate Attorney General Thomas Perrelli Highlights DOJ Grants to Tribal Communities?Nearly $127 million in Fiscal Year 2010 grants were awarded to support public safety initiatives of federally recognized Indian tribes through the new Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS). CTAS encourages local collaboration and coordination on public safety and justice planning. Instead of submitting multiple grant applications, tribes were able?for the first time ever?to submit a single application for most tribal justice-related DOJ grant programs. http://www.tribaljusticeandsafety.gov

FY 10 Recovery Act Grant will Fund Needs Assessment and Development of the National Internet Crimes Against Children Data System (NIDS)?More than $900,000 was awarded to the Massachusetts State Police, and its partners Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC), University of Massachusetts (UMass), and University of New Hampshire Crimes Against Children Research Center (CCRC) to complete a needs assessment and developmental activities to support the future development of the National Internet Crimes Against Children Data System (NIDS). The project team will work closely with OJJDP, NIDS steering Committee, the ICAC Task Forces and federal, state and local ICAC affiliated law enforcement agencies and all project activities will be guided by the Department of Justice. https://ojp.gov/funding/10grantawards.htm

Other Fiscal Year 2010 grant awards?This week OJP announced more than $610 million in formula grants that will support state and local Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) compensation and assistance programs, and almost $17 million was awarded to eight states to improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). OJP will frequently update its Web site during the next few weeks with information about the Fiscal Year 2010 grants that it has awarded. Press releases about grants for a variety of initiatives and research will be posted in the Newsroom on OJP?s Web site as the releases are issued.
