Weekly News Brief

Drug Endangered Children?Mary Lou Leary, OJP?s Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, spoke Wednesday, November 10, at the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children Conference in Dallas, Texas. She highlighted the Department of Justice?s work with the Alliance and the Department?s Drug Endangered Children Interagency Task Force, which is developing a strategy to address the needs of children who suffer as a result of illicit drug use. It has been estimated that 9.2 million children live in homes where a parent or other adult uses illicit drugs. Eight federal agencies are members of the Task Force and it is seeking feedback from stakeholders interested in partnering with the Task Force. More details about the Task Force are available by sending an email to [email protected].

Tools for Social Media?OJP's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) have partnered to create the IACP Center for Social Media. The Center will be a resource for law enforcement agencies looking to use social media and related tools to prevent and solve crimes, strengthen police-community relations, recruit employees and enhance services. Free resources, including a model policy, fact sheets, case studies and instructional tutorials are available on the Center?s Web site. www.IACPsocialmedia.org.
