HEARINGS OF THE REVIEW PANEL ON PRISON RAPE, SEPTEMBER 15-16

The Review Panel on Prison Rape will hold hearings in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, September 15, and Friday, September 16. The purpose of the hearings is to assist the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in identifying common characteristics of rape victims and perpetrators in adult U.S. jails with the highest and lowest incidence of rape. The hearings are based on the BJS report, Sexual Victimization in Prisons and Jails Reported by Inmates, 2008-2009.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2011, 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. EDT

WHO: Representatives from the Orleans Parish Prison, Orleans Parish, La.; the Clallam County Corrections Facility, Clallam County, Wash.; and the Miami-Dade Pre-Trial Detention Center, Miami-Dade County, Fla., all identified as having a high prevalence of sexual victimization, are scheduled to testify.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2011, 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. EDT

WHO: Representatives from the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center, Tulsa County, Okla.; and the Hinds County Work Center, Hinds County, Miss., both identified as having a low prevalence of sexual victimization, are scheduled to testify.
