HEARING OF THE REVIEW PANEL ON PRISON RAPE, APRIL 26 - 27

WASHINGTON - The Review Panel on Prison Rape will hold hearings in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, April 26, and Wednesday, April 27. The purpose of the hearing is to assist the Bureau of Justice Statistics in identifying common characteristics of rape victims and perpetrators in adult U.S. prisons with the highest and lowest incidence of rape. The hearings are based on the BJS report, Sexual Victimization in Prisons and Jails Reported by Inmates, 2008-2009.

TUESDAY, APRIL 26, 2011, 9 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. EDT.

WHO: Representatives from the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution, Elkton, Ohio; and Bridgeport Pre-Parole Transfer Facility, Bridgeport, Texas, both identified as facilities with a low prevalence of sexual victimization; and the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, Troy, Va.; a facility identified as having a high prevalence of sexual victimization, are scheduled to testify.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 2011, 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. EDT

WHO: Representatives from the James V. Allred Unit, Wichita Falls, Texas and the Elmira Correctional Facility, Elmira, N.Y., both identified as having a high prevalence of sexual victimization, are scheduled to testify.
