National Police Week Starts Sunday, Honors Fallen Police Officers - Communities across the United States come together during Police Week, May 15-21, to honor and remember law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind, during wreath laying ceremonies, relay races, award ceremonies and memorial services. Solicitations Posted for HOPE Program - The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) will provide funds for up to four jurisdictions to implement Honest Probation with Enforcement (HOPE), a program that uses swift punishment to help probationers abstain from drug use. In addition to the sites, a grantee will be selected to evaluate the program. BJA's application are due June 28, and NIJ's by July 6.
Child Exploitation Conference - The 2011 National Strategy Conference on Combating Child Exploitation, Tuesday, May 17 - Friday, May 20, at the San Jose Convention Center, Calif., is open to the media.
