Second Chance Body Armor, Inc. has announced that the company is offering free "upgrades" to the ballistic-resistant panels of Second Chance's Ultima® and Ultimax™ Product lines. A model of armor complies with the NIJ standard only as long as it is constructed identically to the version originally tested and approved through NIJ's voluntary compliance testing program.

As part of the Department of Justice's Body Armor Safety Initiative, the National Institute of Justice has been tasked with evaluating the effectiveness of this "upgrade package" offered by Second Chance, when used in conjunction with existing models of NIJ-compliant armor. Results of this evaluation will be made available as soon as testing has been completed.
