Mary Lou Leary Named Deputy Assistant Attorney General

Mary Lou Leary has been appointed as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the Office of Justice Programs and joined OJP on May 20, 2009. Ms. Leary previously served at OJP as Acting Assistant Attorney General at the end of the Clinton Administration and beginning of the Bush Administration. Since 2004, she has been Executive Director of the National Center for Victims of Crime. In addition to her prior tenure at OJP, Ms. Leary served as Acting Director of the COPS Office and as Deputy Associate Attorney General. She was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia for 13 years and was Acting U.S. Attorney in that district in 1997-98. Prior to coming to Washington, DC, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. In addition to her law degree, Ms. Leary holds a master's degree in education.
