Dictionary of Criminal Justice Terms

NCJ Number
177219
Date Published
1998
Length
132 pages
Annotation
Because criminal justice is a complex field that is served by many authorities, including the police, courts, and corrections, this dictionary of criminal justice terms is designed to make criminal justice agencies aware of relevant terms and concepts.
Abstract
The dictionary is a basic resource for correctional administrators and officers, students, volunteers, and others who participate in adult and juvenile corrections and for probation and parole officers, counselors, educators, medical personnel, police agencies, and judicial personnel. Users of the dictionary will encounter some terms with which they are unfamiliar or which are no longer used in their organizations, primarily because terms vary among agencies and jurisdictions and some fall out of favor while new ones enter into use. Even so, the dictionary presents clear and succinct definitions that will be valuable to students and practitioners alike.
