SURVEY OF THE STATE-OF-THE-ART IN COMPUTERIZED SYSTEMS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT INFORMATION THROUGHOUT OHIO.
Abstract
THE GENERAL CONCEPT OF A COMPUTER-BASED, INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM WAS FORMULATED IN ORDER TO GIVE SURVEY RESPONDENTS AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW SUCH A SYSTEM WOULD FUNCTION. THE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED THROUGH A MAILED QUESTIONNAIRE, PERSONAL INTERVIEWS, AND IN-DEPTH STUDIES OF RECORD-KEEPING FACILITIES IN SEVERAL CITIES. THE OHIO STATE HIGHWAY PATROL WAS SURVEYED FOR PRESENT INFORMATION ACTIVITIES AND NEEDS, AND TO DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF TIME WHICH PATROLMEN SPEND WAITING FOR ANSWERS TO INQUIRIES. A GENERAL SYSTEM DESIGN AND A PLAN FOR IMPLEMENTING THE PROPOSED INFORMATION SYSTEM WAS PREPARED. A FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF THE PROPOSED SYSTEM WAS INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
