ANALYSIS AND SUMMARY OF INFORMATION GATHERED FROM MONTHLY REPORTS BY MARYLAND'S PRINCE GEORGE'S AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES ON THE RESIDENCES OF ARRESTEES, SHOWING SUBSTANTIAL INTERJURISDICTIONAL CRIME.
Abstract
THE INFORMATION FOR THIS STUDY WAS GATHERED FROM JANUARY TO SEPTEMBER, 1972. A REVIEW OF PREVIOUS STUDIES ON THIS TOPIC IS GIVEN, WITH MOST SHOWING A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF INTERJURISDICTIONAL CRIME BETWEEN NORTHERN VIRGINIA, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, AND MONTGOMERY AND PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTIES. THE RESULTS ARE TABULATED IN SEVERAL TABLES. IT WAS FOUND THAT ABOUT 20 PERCENT OF ALL ARRESTS FOR INDEX OFFENSES IN THESE COUNTIES WERE OF NON-RESIDENTS, AND 12 PERCENT OF THESE WERE FROM THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. ROBBERY AND GRAND LARCENY WERE MOST AFFECTED BY THE NON-RESIDENT OFFENDER. JUVENILE PARTICIPATION IN INTERJURISDICTIONAL CRIME WAS FOUND TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN IN RESIDENT CRIME. APPENDED ARE EXCERTS FROM A STUDY ON CRIME IN PRINCE GEORGE'S AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES, AND EXCERPTS FROM THE REPORT ON INTERJURISDICTIONAL CRIME TRENDS IN THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN AREA.
