The 4-year research effort culminated in September 1989 with the development of a forensic audio workstation with the capability of analyzing voices and other recorded events. The project's main goal is to develop a system that can deal with voice data independent of the transmission method and the text and can produce objective decisions. Thus, the focus has been on developing an interactive system of voice identification for use as an investigative took as well as a courtroom tool. The research examined many parameters of speech and found that a combined set of speaker-specific parameters can achieve high rates of identification.
