The workshop's purpose was to promote Federal court research by enhancing workshop participants' understanding of case processing, familiarity with data compiled by the Bureau of Justice Statistics' (BJS') Federal Justice Statistics Program, and knowledge about multi-level and multi-stage statistical techniques. The names of the five instructors are listed, along with their institution or agency affiliation. Three instructors were members of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, one represented the Bureau of Justice Statistics, and one was a professor at the University of Maryland. A 24-item reading list features publications that address various issues in sentencing by Federal courts. PDFs for nine workshop materials are accessible from this Web page. Information on data and codebooks provides online access to "Monitoring of Federal Criminal Sentences, 2007." An accompanying note indicates that authentication using a Google, Facebook, or ICPSR MyData account is needed to access the data and codebook. Access is also provided to the following agency resources: information on BJS' Federal Justice Statistics Resource Center and related reports, reports prepared by the U.S. Sentencing Commission, information on NIJ's Data Resources Program, and the NIJ resources Program FY 2010 solicitation.
