RESULTS OF SYSTEMATIC EXAMINATION OF FILE MATERIAL OF 40 YOUTHS PLACED IN THE PROGRAM, CONCERNING THEIR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS, CORRECTIONS HISTORY AND GROUP RESIDENCE ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GROUP RESIDENCE HOME IS TRACED, CITING THE FORMER ABSENCE OF COMMUNITY-BASED TREATMENT FOR HARD-TO-PLACE JUVENILES AS THE REASON FOR FOUNDING THE FACILITY. AN EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAM WAS UNDERTAKEN TO ASSESS IF ADMISSION CRITERIA AND PROGRAM OBJECTIVES WERE FULFILLED. INFORMATION ON RESIDENT'S BACKGROUND CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS INTELLIGENCE, HOME AND ETHNIC BACKGROUND, AND THEIR HISTORY OF PROBATION, PAROLE, LAST OFFENSES OR INSTITUTIONAL RESIDENCE WERE GATHERED FROM THEIR FILES. PROGRAM ACTIVITIES, TYPE OF TERMINATION AND PLACEMENT AFTER THE PROGRAM WERE ALSO INVESTIGATED. IT WAS FOUND THAT 41 PERCENT OF THOSE LEAVING ACHIEVED SATISFACTORY ADJUSTMENT, WHILE 32 PERCENT WENT TO CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND 27 PERCENT WERE PLACED WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS. ADMISSION CRITERIA WERE FOUND TO BE FULFILLED, AND PROGRAM OBJECTIVES SUCH AS VOCATIONAL AND ACADEMIC TRAINING OR EMPLOYMENT WERE ALSO FOUND GENERALLY SUCCESSFUL. TABLES OF RESULTS ARE INCLUDED.
