Abstract
"Remote Biometrics Empower San Diego Officers" explains how officers are using smart phones to photograph suspects in the field and transmitting them for possible matching with database photos of offenders. "Considerations for Social Media Management and Strategy" outline the keys to successful social media management, with attention to the selection of the right personnel to manage the social media program. "Social Media: An Outreach Tool for Rural Communities" describes how the Kentucky State Police reach out to rural communities through innovative social media practices. "Tablet Migration: Do Tablets Have a Home in Your Agency?" explains how the tablet computer has quickly evolved to offer handheld portability and durability comparable to rugged laptops. Guidance is provided for selecting a tablet among the many choices available. Other than these feature articles on cutting-edge technology, columns and departmental features discuss the alignment of law enforcement with the community and government policymakers, confession contamination and evaluation, the identification of "micro-hotspots," new officer training that saves the lives of children, prioritizing emotional and mental health through peer support, and considering officer developmental levels as a component of individual and organizational success.
