Abstract
This document, or leaflet, presents information on issues faced primarily by Black and minority ethnic women and children in Great Britain. It is noted however, that the information can also be used to assist victims of domestic and sexual violence from any nationality or ethnic background. The report is divided into 11 sections. The first section presents information on what is considered violence against women and girls, and steps that should be taken when encountering these situations. Section 2 discusses domestic violence, and section 3 discusses the problem of rape and sexual abuse. Section 4 provides information on immigrants who are victims of domestic violence but who have no recourse to receive public assistance. Section 5 provides information on how to apply for permission to settle in the United Kingdom. Section 6 discusses the problem of honor-based violence/abuse (HBV), and section 7 addresses the issue of forced marriages. Section 8 discusses the problem of dowry abuse, while section 9 addresses the issue of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM). Section 10 provides information on how to obtain help, and section 11 presents a list of agencies and organizations in the United Kingdom that provide assistance to victims of violence against women and children.
