The Sex Offender Management Assessment and Planning Initiative, managed by the SMART Office, summarizes what we know about those who commit sexual offenses and evaluates ways to prevent future offenses. How Tribes can "TAP" into Information Databases
The Attorney General recently highlighted the Tribal Access Program (TAP) as one of the cornerstones of public safety in Indian country. TAP consists of three primary elements: access, technology and training. Tribes have successfully begun entering information directly into the federal databases. The Tribal Access Program has been instrumental in advancing public safety for the 33 tribes participating in the program. An overview of the program, specific accomplishments and success stories are included in this blog.

Determining the Ability of Computer Algorithms to Forecast Crime
The National Institute of Justice is holding a Real-Time Forecasting Challenge to examine how efficiently and effectively algorithms can forecast crime based on five years of calls-for-service data. NIJ hopes to harness the rapid advances in data science seen in other fields to advance forecasting algorithms to help improve policing practices. All submissions are due by midnight Eastern Time, February 28, 2017.
