COVID-19 in Correctional Facilities: Updates to CDC Guidance and Available Funding for Detection and Mitigation Strategies

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are cohosting this webinar to highlight recent (May 2022) updates to the CDC’s Guidance on Prevention and Management of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Correctional and Detention Facilities.

The recent update includes a Framework to Assess COVID-19 Risk and to Select Prevention Strategies in Correctional and Detention Facilities and Considerations for Applying COVID-19 Prevention Strategies in Correctional and Detention Facilities. These updates ensure the guidance consistent with recommendations found in the recently published COVID-19 Community Levels. The updates provide guidance on developing a flexible COVID-19 prevention plan, as well as detailed guidance on implementing specific prevention strategies. In addition, the updates offer modified quarantine approaches that facilities can consider to reduce the impact of quarantine on mental health and staffing levels.

This webinar will go through the new changes in detail. It will also provide information on federal funding available to confinement facilities, the COVID-19 Detection and Mitigation in Confinement Facilities program made available through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
