Cultural Competence and Elder Abuse

Event Dates

Webinar
Elder Abuse is a serious public health and human rights issue that erodes older people's safety and dignity.

Research suggests that culture can be both a risk and protective factor associated with elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Culture affects how people perceive and define elder abuse and can create a number of linguistic, cultural, social, and institutional barriers in reporting abuse or seeking help.

This also impacts how professionals and authorities engage people in need of assistance.

This webinar will discuss the importance of considering cultural competence to build sturdy interventions, support services, and prevention resources that acknowledge multicultural perspectives on abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
