This webinar will provide information about Medicaid Reentry Section 1115, a demonstration opportunity that expands Medicaid benefits coverage for individuals during the 90-day period before their release from incarceration.

Hosted by Sheriff Peter Koutoujian from Middlesex County, Massachusetts, this panel discussion will bring together experts to shed light on the implications for jails and prisons when waivers are approved in their state. The panel will discuss proactively preparing and adapting to these changes, and opportunities to strengthen reentry services, specifically for individuals prescribed medications for opioid use disorder. Participants will hear firsthand accounts from a state that has begun implementation of their demonstration proposal, offering practical examples of best practices and lessons learned.

After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 ways the Medicaid Reentry Section 1115 demonstration may impact jails and prisons.
  • Understand how continuation of care impacts reentry success, especially for individuals prescribed medications for opioid use disorder and engaging in further substance use treatment.
  • Formulate actionable first steps to leverage Medicaid Reentry Section 1115 to enhance services pre-release.
